Abstract
In order to assess in-service teachers in an authentic manner, one Master’s Degree in TESOL program revised the evaluation criteria for degree conferral (the traditional end-of-program comprehensive examination), with the requirement for students to create an electronic portfolio. Students were surveyed and interviewed concerning their perceptions of the electronic portfolio process. Results showed an overwhelmingly positive response to the electronic portfolio process, including the continued advantages of the portfolio months after graduation. Follow-up interviews revealed that the now practicing teachers are more proficient and comfortable with the technology required to complete the electronic portfolio and use technology regularly in their classrooms.
