Abstract
There is a growth in demand for education and the conventional universities in Pakistan are faced with a shortage of faculty and limited capacity. This paper examines the introduction of a virtual university into the educational market in Pakistan to meet the demand for education. The technology used to deliver the course content to a large dispersed cohort is examined, along with the factors that enable a virtual university to compete with conventional universities. Conclusions are drawn as to the contributing factors that facilitate the successful establishment of a virtual university.
