Abstract

The dramatic advances in ICT during the past decade have driven national programs aiming to transform learning and instruction in the school system. Such programs can become employment areas for students graduating with skills and knowledge of Instructional Systems Technologies. However, these students are often uninformed about the change processes and view the formal school system as unattractive. This paper describes a project assignment for 3rd year students, which offers them opportunities to become acquainted with a large variety of initiatives in the public education system for promoting and supporting 21st century learning and instruction. The paper will describe the instructional design, the project structure and some of the ICT in Education initiatives included in the 2009-2012 projects. The paper will elaborate on the types of knowledge and skills students harnessed for carrying out their projects and report on a recent post-course survey.
