Abstract

Today’s students are spending large amounts of time online, most frequently on social networking sites. These sites, which are basically content management systems, can offer great potential for online and blended learning. This chapter introduces the technologies associated with creating media-rich social networks and how open source solutions can provide the tools to create media and also to integrate social networks with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
