Abstract

The authors are in charge of information education with PC exercises and were in charge of online classes in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. In these classes, we advocated and introduced the usefulness of an external monitor and conducted surveys on the results of the implementation and the learning environment. On the basis of these results, an Internet survey on online classes was conducted from December 2021 to January 2022 on 500 students nationwide using a web survey system. The result indicated that the usage rate of external monitors among students who took online classes for 1.5 years was approximately 30%, which was higher than the results of the survey conducted in our classes beforehand. In addition, the first-year university students in 2021 reported the use of external monitors to the same extent. In the free description of the opinion on convenience in online classes, the students who mainly used smart devices desired PCs, students who used PCs desired PC peripherals, and those who did not relate to equipment desired a comfortable chair and a large desk.
