Abstract

This paper describes a study which seeks to explore teachers’ and students’ perspectives on the usability and effectiveness of a web-based project in order to improve it and increase its reliability. The study uses the analytical tasks of the “What Went Wrong” WebQuest as a means to enhance students’ understanding of the religion of Islam and Islamic civilization. For the study, student participants actively participated and collaborated in conducting this project by reflecting on their understanding of Islam and the factors that led to the rise and decline of the Islamic civilization. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through pre- and post-project surveys, interviews, and results of the rubric evaluation. The findings of the study revealed that student participants highly enjoyed this learning experience which clearly enhanced their understanding of the subject learned.
