Abstract

In this paper we report on a constructivist and collaborative learning environment, created within the framework of an educational computing course and targeted towards introducing student teachers to the design and development of educational Web sites through project-based work. Forty-six student teachers collaborated assuming the roles of educational Web site designers and developers, and constructed 16 Web sites for the primary school. A survey of their views and an evaluation of the Web sites created by them were conducted with a view to assess their difficulties with regard to the Web design and development process, and to accordingly improve our learning environment in the future. The results showed that the project-based learning approach was motivational and effective, although the student teachers encountered certain difficulties in image processing, file management and design of navigational structures, and thus additional scaffolding is needed in those areas.
