Abstract
This paper reports on a study to develop a framework of electronic literacy for post-compulsory, remote access, virtual learning environments. The study acknowledges previous work on individual aspects of the online experience but seeks, through a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques, to formulate an over-arching framework applicable to post-compulsory, remote-access education. This not only enables contextualisation of the many different elements involved but also enables further examination of their nature and relative importance in order that the framework may provide a flexible and robust tool for use in electronic instructional design
