Abstract
With the spread of new coronavirus infections (Covid-19), many of the traditional face-to-face classes at universities are being replaced by online classes. In face-to-face classes, almost all students can attend under the same conditions if they come to the classroom. If a student has some kind of disability, reasonable accommodations will be made, such as securing teachers and support staff, as well as providing facilities and equipment. If there is a problem in viewing video or audio in the classroom, all students will be affected, and the situation can be immediately monitored by the instructor. However, online classes are highly dependent on PC and network conditions and the home environment. Some universities lend PCs and Wi-Fi routers as financial support, but in most cases, students have to pay for their own environment. In addition, it is not easy for instructors and learners to know where the cause of a problems lies in their environments, providers, or systems. As a result, the class may go on without being noticed and being resolved the problems of some or all of the learners. Our university has adopted to use Zoom, one of famous online video conference systems for campus-wide real-time online classes. We have developed a prototype of an online class situation dashboard that provides users information on the situation of online classes conducted in our university[2]. In this paper, we report the details of the system we have developed.
