Abstract
Educational leaders are seen as the technology leaders in schools (Gosmire & Grady, 2007; Creighton, 2003). Part of the educational leader’s responsibility is to promote technology literacy in schools; many need the opportunity to explore this role before assuming it (Chang, Chin, & Hsu, 2008). Students (n = 270) in 15 sections of an online graduate course participated in a discussion which focused on the role of the leader in technology literacy skill development. Davies’ (2010) model served as the conceptual framework and the guiding data analysis. Data were analyzed using a variety of strategies, and major themes emerged. As the first in the series, this study primarily sought to identify the kinds of themes that would emerge and the kinds of key words which were used to represent these themes. Future studies will focus on how these themes interact in more complex, multifaceted manners and will discover relationships among the themes.
