Towards excellence in computing in five years at Sacred Heart University: Year one
Computers and Composition Volume 15, Number 1, ISSN 8755-4615 Publisher: Elsevier Ltd
This article describes the experiences of the authors as directors of the Writing Program, the English as a Second/Foreign Language Program, (ESL/EFL) and the Learning Center—with its Adaptive Technology Lab (ATL)—when their comprehensive university decided to require laptops for all incoming first-year students. They detail the difficulties and rewords of implementing the requirement, including training students and faculty, coping with the failures and learning from the successes of the first year, and judging the impact of the program on the university and on each segment of its writing program. The authors offer advice to other universities who may be contemplating a similar move.
