The Information Superhighway: A Review of Some Determining Factors
ARTICLE

Journal of Information Science Volume 23, Number 3, ISSN 1352-7460

Abstract

Examines consumer services delivered via the Internet. Discusses social and political factors (regulation, commercial alliances, copyright), specific applications (home banking and shopping, distance education, electronic mail, games, telecommuting), and constraints of data transmission. Since many applications are based on videoconferencing, interactive television, and video-on-demand, research on these systems is reviewed. (49 references) (AEF)
