Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop a practitioner-validated list of competencies needed by educators to author multimedia courseware. There are many viewpoints on the competencies that educators need to effectively use computer technology in their classrooms. Teacher education organizations have proposed that educators should have, “The ability to integrate instructional technology into the classroom to facilitate interdisciplinary teaching and learning, supplement instructional strategies, design instructional materials, and enhance hands-on experiences and problem solving” (National Council for the Association of Teacher Education, 1992) and “demonstrate knowledge of uses of multimedia,
