Abstract

Numerous in-service teachers are now learning the powerful hypertext (hypermedia) technology, which allows teachers to include text, graphics, audio, video, animations, or film clips in a computer program for instructional purposes. Unfortunately, many of them have experienced frustration, or even failure, in the process of learning hypertext. One of the reasons for this problem is that hypertext courses are often conducted by computer professionals. These computer professionals may have excellent hypertext skills but are not aware of any of the unique aspects of adult learning.
