Abstract

Mechanical Technology, like any other technical subject is facility-dependent. This subject is taught in all the 14 Technical High Schools in Jamaica, but with a lot of problems relating to lack of functional and fully equipped laboratories with up to date instructional facilities. As an intervening measure, an interactive instructional DVD for learning the concept and operations of lathe machine at technical high school level of education has been produced and validated. This paper outlines the procedures involved in producing and validating the instructional resource as an outcome of the first stage of an ongoing study. Based on the findings, the paper advocates that TVET teachers be encouraged and motivated to use their creativity and innovation to develop similar resources that can enhance teaching and learning in related Career, Technical, Vocational Education and Training subjects in especially developing economies facing similar problems.
