Abstract

With the recent negative publicity concerning the "distraction" caused by students using laptops in the classroom, this case study presents strategies for effectively using student laptops to integrate media, online courseware and computer-based activities into everyday classroom teaching. Based on a prototype course design and implementation currently being used to teach and assess the first-year history survey course, the case study explores the use of online media lecture presentations, computer-based gaming simulations, Web-based research activities and projects, and student media presentations.
