The LOGO Project: Designing an Effective Continuing Education Program for Teachers

Abstract
The LOGO Project, funded by the Texas Education Agency, is designed to not only increase participants' knowledge of technology to teach mathematics but to enhance their self-efficacy and self-determination, or the beliefs that individuals have about their ability to succeed and their motivation for involvement in the task, as well. The purpose of this article is to describe the LOGO content delivered to a group of seventh grade mathematics teachers, the manner in which it was taught, and the changes in self-efficacy and self-determination the teachers reported throughout the process. Results reveal that increases in LOGO self-efficacy and self-determination can be achieved when workshop instructors encourage choices, promote the individual agency, and are available across time. This strategy appears to encourage teachers' implementation of new technological skills into classrooms and resiliency when confronted with obstacles to this process.
