Abstract
Constructivist educators emphasize the process of thinking and learning. Bednar, Cunningham, Duffy and Perry (1992) state, “Constructivists focus on the process of knowledge construction and the development of reflexive awareness of that process” (p. 24). Jonassen (1996) writes that computers must serve as knowledge construction tools that “support, guide, and extend the thinking processes of their users” (p. 10). Further, constructivists stress the understanding o f a particular student’s thinking process over the observation of his or her correct answers (Confrey, 1991).
