Supporting Vicarious Exploration for a Common Interest Group

This paper describes how to utilize browsing and exploring activities effectively on the Internet for a common interest group. Especially it focuses on Bookmark function of a browser. Bookmark items are filtered out from a list resulting from search engines or passed by colleagues/co-workers. This hierarchical pool becomes an indicator of empirical knowledge or interest of individuals. In mutually exchanging them among users, this process could be regarded as a vicarious experience of exploration. Therefore, shareable environment for this local pool has been developed at first. Moreover, this tool also presents advanced methods for two types of working groups (homogeneous and heterogeneous ones), based on both URL- and content-level analysis of a given set of WWW sites. The last part of this paper implies further application and research directions.
