Abstract
In this study, we developed the Digital Fortune Line System for supporting the visualization and sharing of students f multiple ideas and their commitment to those ideas. We used the Conceptual Ecology Model developed by Posner et al. as a theoretical base, which has received much attention from researchers and teachers aiming to promote conceptual change. We also evaluated the effectiveness of the system as a learning support tool, while designing and implementing an elementary school science curriculum using this system. As a result of a questionnaire survey conducted with 37 fourth-graders (10 or 11 years old) who attended the class, most students responded that learning activities that were expected to contribute to conceptual change occurred when they used the representation, layer display, and summary functions of the system. These results indicate that this system offers the possibility of enhancing classroom teaching and curricula for promoting conceptual change.
