Abstract

The hands on workshop will help educators understand iPad applications and creative ways to effectively use the iPad in their classrooms to support students struggling with math concepts in the primary and intermediate grades. The presenter will demonstrate how to use the iPad to improve student performance and understanding of concepts through creation, not just consumption. Participants will be encouraged to try out the applications and create sample projects they can share with their students. Concepts covered will include iTunesU, access to podcasts and videos, and using built in and purchased iPad applications to create lessons that promote learning without the traditional “drill and kill” practices. Examples and lesson ideas that support Common Core Math standards and ISTE NETS-S / T will be shared. Attendees will leave with a list of suggested iPad applications to purchase, for minimal cost or free, as well as strategies on how to integrate iPads in the classroom for both individual, small group and large group instruction.
