This paper is a report on a pilot study conducted on an undergraduate level English course. Based on constructivists’ perspectives, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach was used to improve students’ ability to comprehend English text. Totally, 16 university students in Taiwan joined the pilot study using English news video clips and the Internet to learn English as a foreign language. Rationales for integrating PBL approach into foreign language education were presented. The results of this study contribute to the following domains: first, the knowledge of the optimal multimedia instructional model for foreign language education; second, the knowledge of how to employ PBL approach to foreign language curriculum.
