Abstract

With the introduction of a testing bank feature offered by major Learning Management Systems (LMS), online testing banks become reality. This paper presents the idea of using test banks to conduct take-home online testing. A case study of how a health science course “Nutrition” utilizes the online testing bank feature is studied. The process of designing, developing, implementing and evaluating of a randomized online testing bank is introduced. A survey was conducted and five characteristics of take-home online testing banks emerged:test bank tests bring convenience to both students and faculty, leave more classroom time for interaction, reduce cheating to the minimum, create a more relaxing testing environment, and simulate the future online professional registry exam.
