Online reading through “Social Tagging”

The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential use and the effectiveness of social tagging in online reading. In addition, it also looks at specific issues of learner’s identity formation, learner autonomy, and empowerment. Specifically, the social networking site that this study focuses on is using the Facebook environment. This study will be conducted among 30 Multimedia postgraduate students for the duration of 10 weeks. A set of questionnaire will be distributed to participants before the study and to identify student’s background followed by another set of questionnaire to identify the effectiveness of social tagging in influencing learner’s identity formation, learner autonomy, and empowerment will be administered at the end of the study. In addition to the questionnaire, a document analysis on the forum as well as an open ended interview will be carried out for triangulation purposes.
