Abstract

We believe that the next stage of innovation in the development of ICT technologies could well be the electronification under the digital pen system. We discuss the Anoto system and the ultrasonic wave system. We review related research studies and find that some of them are helpful because they address the issue of sharing each student’s writing and reflections of their ideas and thought patterns. Further, we indicate the necessary conditions of the digital pen system environment. Finally, we describe the results of the questionnaire on the use of digital pens inside the classroom. The results reveal that students are interested in the system, but that they do not think the system is effective, contrary to the conclusions of related researches. Therefore, we advocate that investigating the effectiveness of the system in real conditions and in a number of classrooms over the long term is essential.
