Abstract

Wikis are editable websites made up of pages created by individual learner. Users can easily accept or modify the content displayed on their group wiki site. This type of functionality generally implies that wikis have the potential to be an excellent tool for collaboration in an online environment. This paper summarizes seven best practices for utilizing wikis to support and assess learning including ways to establish student etiquette needed in wikis, the use of practice wiki sites (for skill development), and the use of wiki rubrics to assess learning. Several “free” online wiki resources will be shared in this presentation.
