Abstract

As an increasing number of universities are offering online courses and programs, they are facing the challenge of maintaining the quality of the online courses and programs. Due to the increasing demand of online education, many faculty members are being asked to redesign their traditional courses to develop online courses. Quality online experiences can only be created when appropriate online pedagogy and course design are integrated with technology. In this session, authors describe the process of transforming a traditional face to face MBA course to an online course using best practices of online course design and pedagogy. The session will describe the Community of Inquiry Framework, highlight best practices in online course design and present examples from the redesigned course to illustrate how an online course was transformed from an existing traditional format. Finally, the authors will share some issues related to the design and delivery of the course and provide suggestions for designing online courses.
