Abstract

Based on the Moodle open source platform, we have developed a competency-based tool/database for educators to develop, collect, systematize and peer-review curricula and educational resources. This toolset features a robust set of procedures educators can use to describe educational products and attach keywords, citations and other metadata and specify rights using creative commons licensing. A customizable keyword set permits users to link or filter the pool of competence-based resources to teaching themes. The instrument also enables collaborative authoring and reviewing of material. As material is acquired, senior and subordinate reviewers can be assigned with sequential review tracking and feedback to authors. Our interface permits educators to see a comprehensive layout of a competence-based curriculum, preview learning resources individually and assemble selected resources into a downloadable packages. A user rating system is included so educators can rate the value of materials.
