Developing Online Programs Today to Prepare Educators for Tomorrow

Two universities describe their strategic planning process to launch online programs for advanced teacher education degrees in instructional technology. The process considered instructional technology standards, the accreditation process, capacity of the network infrastructure, technical support for maintenance and users (faculty and students), curriculum, pedagogy and professional development. The online conversion has encountered many internal and external hurdles and unanticipated decision points to realize implementation of the programs. As technology is rapidly transforming Information Communication Technology (ICT) literacies, instructional technology programs are striving to introduce the most current participatory media tools within required course structures and parameters of the learning management system.
