Abstract

When considering how computers and associated technologies can support environments for CSCL, we must consider the properties of the technology as a communication channel. Computational media are not limited to being means of communication. By the moment, tablet PCs and pen-based technology provide new communication channel for interactive learning. This study describes hand-written annotations tool can support interactive argumentation between students. We report how the system impacts group discussion in a graduate paper seminar and how students interacted with sharing hand-written annotations. We conclude with directions for improving the tool and supporting peer instruction.
