Preparing to use Technology: Guiding teacher candidates to integrate technology into the K-12 curriculum

Abstract: With continued emphasis on the integration of technology into the curriculum, teacher preparation programs feel urgency to comply with growing demands to develop new teachers who can to integrate technology into the K-12 curriculum. This paper reports on a core technology course that has been revised to encourage the development of student-centered and technology enhanced curricula by teacher candidates. The course, which is aligned with the National Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS•T) is constantly being assessed and revised as needed to accommodate the changing audience of learners. The redesign of the course and its capacity to promote improvement of pre-service teachers' ability to integrate technologies into the curriculum will be presented, including teacher artifacts, curriculum connections, and e-portfolios.
