Abstract

Abstract: In The Netherlands the recent move towards a competence-based teacher training created fundamental innovations as to the didactical approach and the materials used. One of the most challenging shifts is the focus on the ‘reflective practitioner’. A teacher as a professional is ‘(re)considering’ all the time what he is doing and looking for better pedagogical and didactical strategies. Authentic video cases prove to be an excellent instrument to provoke multilevel discussions on conflicting frameworks. The Didiclass Video Cases-tool presents a collection of some 100 cases (maximum 15min each). The cases are intriguing and ask for reflection. Teacher students react on the cases from many perspectives. In this social-constructivist-setting the (involved) case discussion on what is the most relevant perspective (theoretical or pragmatic framework of analysis) gives them an environment where they can practice their scope of handling through reflection. Education fundamentally is a matter of points of view, not a matter of technical rationality.
