Abstract

Mobile learning extends education beyond the traditional classroom setting. We report our experiences in designing and developing two in-house mobile apps and subsequently using them to facilitate the process of mineral identification. The apps provide digital worksheets and a reference manual with an expandable database. The mobile app of digitalized mineral collection offers a key advantage- ease of access in learning by allowing students quick access to essential properties of minerals via its interactive features. Students can systematically document their mineral identification process using digital worksheets located in the app, which cumulatively becomes a mineral identification reference of their own and furthers their educational experience.
