Abstract

A benchmarking has been conducted in order to assess the quality level of eLearning activities in European universities. Adopting the 24 quality benchmarks proposed by the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP), in 2002 a sample of 52 universities has been requested to evaluate eLearning processes within their institutions. The research has been complemented by site-visits and interviews, and extended (in 2003-04) to all 77 Italian universities. Results show a shift from a teacher-centred approach to a learner-centred one. Management and evaluation issues are still the most neglected and worth of further researches.
