Project Based Learning in Information Technology Courses

This paper introduces the authors' experiences of creating a Project Based Learning environment in information technology courses at graduate and undergraduate levels for teacher-education majors. It presents the procedures of Project Based Learning: (a) analysis, (b) design, (c) implementation, and (d) evaluation of the projects. It also discusses different contexts of Project Based Learning (e.g., within school working with the instructor, or outside school working with external educators or researchers), various of activities (e.g., individual or group activities, single-case mentoring or workshop training, media production, Computer Based Instruction or Web application design, and research activities), and the connection between Project Based Learning and technology integration. Issues and concerns of using Project Based Learning in information technology courses are discussed.
