Abstract

This paper explores a new possibility that information technology can offer to student learning: using learning management systems (LMS) to enhance self-regulated learning (SRL). Literature on SRL and LMS is reviewed. A new taxonomy for conceptualizing SRL is proposed in light of systems theory. A scenario is provided to illustrate some design features that can be integrated into LMS to foster SRL skills and eventually improve learning. .
