Abstract

In response to the trend of open education movement, this study developed an instrument and used it to examine 142 Taiwan college faculty’s readiness for open courseware (OCW). The 27-item scale comprised four factors: personal characteristics (PC), administrative supports (AS), OCW recognition (OCWR), and competency of digital teaching materials development (CDTMD). The results showed that both the OCW-experienced faculty and the OCW-unexperienced faculty who are willing to provide OCW in the future exhibited significantly higher weight in the dimensions of AS, OCWR, and PC than in the dimension of CDTMD. Additionally, OCW-unexperienced faculty that are not willing to provide OCW in the future exhibited significantly higher weight in the dimension of OCWR than in the dimensions of AS and CDTMD. Finally, administrative support was a statistically significant predictor of OCW-unexperienced faculty’s willingness to provide OCW in the future. Suggestions for further research are provided.
