Designing and developing eportfolios is challenging and time consuming. It requires long term planning and commitment and this paper provides the guidelines to kickstart this process. It is hard to organise all the materials to start your eportfolio if there is no requirement to do so, although we all know that the eportfolio is a useful thing not only to showcase but also to provide direction for initiating future career opportunities. The authors share their experiences of integrating eportfolios in higher education professional development curriculum and research. Examples of interactive eportfolios for learning, teaching and assessment are given, discussing how such eportfolios are different from static showcase versions. Also, the authors explore the importance of interactive self-reflective eportfolios and the rationale for developing such an eportfolio. The paper provides tips and strategies for identifying the needed eportfolio design and development strategy.
