This session will describe a mathematics and technology assignment completed in an elementary teacher education program through the collaboration between the instructor of an elementary mathematics methods and content course and the instructor for the elementary technology course. The project was designed to position elementary preservice teachers to consider the affordances a mathematical task provided potential elementary students to engage in mathematics. Small groups of elementary preservice teachers wrote mathematical tasks and utilized a StopMotion Animation app to illustrate the mathematical tasks. The preservice teachers had the opportunity to revise their mathematical tasks to strengthen the potential cognitive demand of the task. Examples of the preservice teachers’ tasks will be shared during this presentation.
