Abstract

With a wide variety of online communication tools available, instructors have the capability to extend content discussions outside of the classroom. This article discusses how online communication tools can be applied to learning and has been broken into three main sections. The first section explores the forms of online communication available to instructors and provides examples of common online communication tools. The second section discusses items instructors need to be aware of when preparing and maintaining online communication environments. Finally, I will present a model for integrating online communication tools for classroom use and explain how each step is necessary to create and maintain online discussion environments and improve upon for future applications.
