Abstract
Abstract: the purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate the effect of two different types of collaborative activity and time spent in group work on perceived social presence of students. Additionally the study investigated the relationships between perceived social presence and academic performance. The study was undertaken during four-weekly group learning activities in an online graduate course. Results showed that task type and time working together influenced perceived social presence, but that social presence was not simply explained by task type and time working together.
