Abstract

Within the field of English as a Second Language (ESL) there is a lack of materials for English for Special Purposes (ESP), particularly Airline Service English. In addition, the use of student created podcasting in education has not been thoroughly investigated. Thus, through a mixed methods action research design, this study-in-progress has a number of aims: (1) to investigate ways to promote student knowledge construction and sharing through student created podcasts on a course social network, (2) to increase students’ active participation and motivation in their own education, (3) to integrate podcasting into the curriculum, and (4) to increase students’ ICT skills. The participants in this study include 56 second-year Applied English Department college students. Preliminary data suggest that although students have almost no prior exposure to podcasting, they are able to create podcasts and are motivated to share, enjoy, and learn from each others’ podcasts.
