Abstract
The process of credentialing teachers is becoming very complex due to the imposition of more rigorous and detailed standards. A new development in online technology, Online Application Support Providers (OASPs) offer a number of benefits that may make the process of teacher credentialing more efficient for everyone concerned. This paper describes a pilot project inquiring into the benefits and concerns of using OASPs in teacher education programs. An OASP provides candidates with access anytime/anywhere with Internet connection to electronic portfolio exhibits. Program classes can have assignments that address credential standards. Instructors and candidates can collaborate online in designing lessons. Supervisors can see lesson plans before traveling to observe. Administrators can collect data for accreditation visits. Concerns are also noted.
