Abstract
Online courses provide the flexibility to take courses around one's personal and professional schedules. While these courses are said to be anytime and anywhere, online instruction is limited to a traditional computing device such as a desktop or laptop computer. Mobile technologies provide the ability to truly take a course anywhere when there is an available connection of either WiFi or a data plan. This paper explores the possibilities of a distance or online course on a mobile device (smartphone or tablet). It provides a summary of the viability of mobile technologies as a delivery method (from a quality and cost effective perspective) by providing a sample course that can be delivered through a free learning management system (LMS) known as Schoology. The course that was designed, prototyped and tested demonstrated the ability to create a course that could be delivered completely online, while instructing the student about various learning environments.
