Abstract
In this best practices session, we will expound on the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) into Field Experience, the practicum component of the Bachelor of Education Program at the University of Calgary. More specifically, our focus will be threefold. We will discuss the potentialities of the LMS to promote a sense of connectedness among students and instructors; the challenges faced during its implementation; and recommendations for future practices. To frame the discussion, we will use the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Integration Framework developed by Lock et al. (2011), which considers three pillars for a successful integration of ICT into a preservice teacher environment, namely: 1) Literacy in a digital age, 2) Digital citizenship in the new cultures of learning and teaching, and 3) Multimedia, multi-modal learning and teaching. More than simply allowing instructors to share documents and announcements, the use of the LMS was designed to enhance the potential of the field experience to foster the development of a community of learners.
