Abstract

Using TPACK as a model for preservice teacher education, we have developed two in class activities for undergraduates that display periodic motion. First the use of paint flowing from a bucket that is suspended above craft paper as a pendulum. When the paper is pulled under the swinging pendulum with flowing paint, a sine wave is painted on the paper. The second activity is a computer-based pendulum that records the periods of the pendulum. This data is inputted into a physical, real-time chart on a computer screen. These activities in conjunction with each other provide a tangible visual for periodic motion and its applications and relevance in our lives.
