Abstract

Self-selected K-12 teachers were challenged to use Alice and Scratch in integrating project-based learning in teaching content. Teachers learned how to design games related to a specific standard of learning in their content areas. When the teachers introduced teacher-designed games in content teaching, students were interested in learning to design and created their digital artifacts. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected from teachers about their perceptions of math and science teaching, understanding of critical technologies, instructional practices, and digital learning environment in their schools. Technical support and administrative support are critical for teacher implementation of design projects. During formal observation and informal feedback, it was observed that teachers preferred one tool over the other. Teacher created units/lessons, teacher-designed artifacts, and student-designed artifacts will be demonstrated.
