Abstract

Abstract: Within current reading and language arts education, educators and librarians are using visual literacy as “best practice” with their teaching and instructional planning. Reading and analyzing original photographs, prints, and maps assist student learning with understanding the content, application of learned information, connecting meaning, and using technology. This presentation will discuss and demonstrate instructional methods and prompts for using visual literacy and the Library of Congress e-primary sources for teaching and learning in middle school classrooms.
