Abstract

This paper introduces one of the key topics addressed in the symposium, Information Technology in Education Worldwide. The focus in on the importance of attitudes and competencies in the implementation of information technology in education. Following an overview of types of attitudes and dispositions is a discussion of formal models, the importance of standards, types of instruments, and outcomes of large scale studies. The paper ends with a discussion of characteristics for successful integration of technology in education. This topic will be the focus of one of 10-12 sections to be represented by several chapters in the upcoming International Handbook of Information Technology in Education to be published by Springer.
