Abstract

Faculty lead busy lives. With research, teaching, and community service requirements, there is little time left for attending trainings and professional development, especially with respect to learning hands-on skills. To overcome this difficulty, we turned our face-to-face training on our web conferencing software into an online training by using simulations. These simulations allowed faculty to learn and master the skills needed to successfully teach an online class through a web conference. This article discusses how the simulations were created and what they incorporated, along with other best practices that were followed in the design of the online training.
